There have been numerous high-scoring games in IPL 2026 thus far, but Match No. 60 at Eden Gardens will always stand out as one of the most outstanding displays of batting talent in history. Before a jam-packed stadium dressed in purple, Kolkata Knight Riders dominated the game with their incredible prowess with the bat, leaving the Gujarat Titans dumbfounded. At the end of the match, Kolkata Knight Riders emerged victorious by a margin of 29 runs, making them strong playoff contenders.
Coin Toss And Immediate Regret
It was during the toss when the Gujarat Titans’ skipper Shubman Gill called correctly and opted to field after winning the toss. With the belief that they will get help from dew during the latter part of the game, they chose to do the same. But this decision would haunt them for all their worth within the initial few overs of the game.
Right from the time when play commenced, the upper order batters of KKR played a destructive inning against their opponent. Among those, the one who had been mainly responsible for it is the destructive Finn Allen. This batter went on to destroy every attack that was sent forth by GT. Playing a magnificent innings, he scored a colossal total of 93 runs with just 35 balls to his name. Not only did he score four boundaries in that, but he also smashed 10 magnificent sixes as well.
Raghuvanshi and Green Keep the Momentum Flying
GT’s hopes of making a comeback after Allan’s axing was dashed immediately. KKR’s Mr. Consistent, the youthful and talented Angkrish Raghuvanshi, strolled into bat and kept KKR’s run-scoring consistent without affecting the required run-rate. He made a brilliant unbeaten knock of 82* runs in just 44 deliveries combining classy drives with vicious pulls.
For piling on more pressure, KKR decided to promote the aggressive Australian Cameron Green higher up the order, and he was up to the mark. In a perfect partnership with Raghuvanshi, Green took the ball out of the park in no time, hitting 52* runs in 28 deliveries. Thus, the unbroken partnership made sure that KKR finished with 247/2 in their 20-over quota.
The Titans’ bowling attack was simply shattered. Mohammed Siraj bagged just one wicket giving 50 runs in 4 overs, whereas Sai Kishore got a solitary wicket conceding 38 runs. Their ace-spinner Rashid Khan was simply butchered in the game, giving 57 runs in 4 overs.
The Chase: Gill and Buttler Show Incredible Courage
To chase down a total of 248 runs is next to impossible, unless the team has a bit of luck and aggressive batting in equal measures. It is fair to say that Gujarat Titans did not go without putting up an incredibly brave battle. Team captain Shubman Gill spearheaded the efforts from the front. Using his signature elegance and wristwork, Gill managed to score 85 runs off 49 deliveries.
With the need to hit 13-plus runs per over becoming a necessity, Jos Buttler, one of England’s top batsmen, held up the hope of winning for GT with his courageous effort of 57 off 35 balls. The two put together an incredible 90-run partnership, which calmed the crowd inside the Eden Gardens temporarily. The scoreboard pressure, however, got the better of them.
The Milestone Milestone: Narine’s Magic
In the midst of a crucial match, it was no surprise that KKR’s most loyal employee had to come through. The veteran bowler, who has featured in as many as 200 TATA IPL matches for his team, proved why he is still an integral part of the side.
Narine choked GT completely in the middle overs of the innings. The right-handed off-break bowler used variations and speed effectively and took 2 crucial wickets, conceding only 29 runs in his 4-over spell. The dots from him helped break the momentum generated by Gill and Buttler.
However, despite putting up a commendable fight and finishing at a very impressive score of 218/4 in 20 overs, Gujarat Titans failed to clinch the win by 29 runs. Sunil Narine, who won the Player of the Match award, made his milestone match one to remember. For KKR, winning this match was sending a loud signal across the entire league about their potent batting lineup being able to decimate any bowling attack.
